Umpires

We Rely on Volunteer Umpires!

Spring 2024 Umpire Schedule

Everyone involved in operating SCLL is a volunteer, including our umpires. Often an overlooked aspect of the Little League program, umpiring is one of the most important. The volunteer umpire is as much a part of Little League as the volunteer manager, coach, or concession stand worker.

Our volunteer umpires create a safe and structured environment, to create a valuable experience for the players. We've been fortunate to have such a dedicated group of umpires who are committed to our league and community. Thank you umpires!

Who Can Umpire?

Anyone can apply to become an umpire.  If you do not have any experience with being a game official, we provide training clinics!  It is not required that you have a player in SCLL to be an umpire for the league.  Other family members, friends, coworkers, community members, etc. can be umpires.  We need volunteer adult umpires to provide coverage for all games throughout the season.

Adults must be background be background checked in order to umpire.  Background checks can be completed through our SCLL Safety officer and can be reached at [email protected]

Junior Umpire Program

San Carlos Little League has a proud history of offering our youth the opportunity to umpire through our Youth Umpire Program.  Anyone, league age 10 and up, is afforded the opportunity to attend umpiring training and join the program.  We do pay our youth umpires!   Umpiring has its Snack Bar Privileges as well!

We'll learn about mechanics, positioning, rules, and more!

HOW IT WORKS

Once training is completed:

Age 13 & up can umpire any level game behind plate and in the field.

Age 11 and up can umpire Minors' games, in the field with an adult.

Ages 10-11 can umpire Rookies' games, in the field with an adult

THE PERKS

All trained umpires will get a special umpire shirt and Hat!

Junior Umpires will be paid a nominal fee.

Get a free hot dog, nachos or pretzel and a drink when they umpire.

When you serve as an umpire, you can choose what level of officiating you’re comfortable with, ranging from base umpire at the Minor division level up to plate umpire at the Majors division level.

Umpiring gives you a unique perspectives on the games, and is also a lot of fun!
