San Carlos Little League Assessments - January 12, 2019
Dear SCLL parents
Welcome to the 2019 San Carlos Little League baseball season! To properly evaluate all players
eligible for Rookies, Minors and Majors Division play, the following schedule has been created for
each age group from 6 to 12 year olds. Players will be evaluated & rated for fielding, throwing,
hitting, and running skills.
The division your child plays in will NOT be the parents' choice. If you would like to request
your child to play up or down a division, you must contact the player agent in writing before
assessments. Upon request, the child must attend both try-outs for each division. This is very
important. The assessment process will determine in which division your child ultimately plays.
For example, an 8 year old (Rookies age) who wants to play in the Minors division must try-out for
Rookies with the 8 year olds and for Minors with the 9 year olds. 10 year olds who would like to
play in Majors need to try out for Majors and Minors. This will allow full evaluation of your
child’s playing ability. All Managers & Player Agents will rate each player utilizing a 1-5 scoring
system. The Managers scoring will be combined to create an average per player to formulate player
rankings. A player must score a minimum of 15 to be considered in the draft for that particular division, with the following exceptions:
~ 10 y/o must play Minors
~ 12 y/o must play Majors
*Unless requested by a parent to be placed in a lower division*

Division Placement: All players will be placed in a division based upon their skill level and
opportunity for success. Age is not a guarantee of placement in a specific division. If your player
participated in our Fall Ball season in a specific division, there is no guarantee they will be
drafted to that division in the spring season.
Majors (League age 11-12) Minors (League age 9-10):
It is mandatory for all players eligible for Majors and Minors division play to attend assessments.
A player cannot play in the majors without attending a tryout. After evaluations have been
completed, a draft will take place. You will receive notification of your team by the team manager.
Rookies (League age 8) Caps (League age 7 some 6's):
It is highly recommended that all players attend assessments. The skills evaluation enables the
league to properly balance the overall skill level of every Rookies & Caps division teams. You will
receive notification of your team by the team manager.
T-Ball (League age 4, 5 & first year 6's ):
There are no evaluation sessions for T-Ball players. 4 year-olds are not permitted in Caps. 5
year-olds with 1 year of t-ball experience is allowed in Caps, per Little League Rules. You will
receive notification of your team by the team manager.
Play-up Evaluations: 6, 8, and 10 year-olds desiring to "play-up", the player will be evaluated by
the Managers of the division in which they are attempting to "play-up". Players who want to play up
MUST ATTEND both their age division assessment and the upper division assessment.
**Most importantly, even if your player has the skill and evaluation to make the desired upper
division, all players are subject to limited spaces available.**
We are looking forward to another outstanding season at SCLL. If you have any questions, please
feel free to contact your specific Player Agent.
